This past growing season Community Machinery collaborated with Broadfork Farm to build a Self-Loading Compost Spreader. This allows one tractor to scoop and spread compost to their market-garden beds. Now that we have proven the concept, we're looking to see how others might adapt it successfully on their farms. Please visit our Compost Spreader survey here, plus take a minute to check out the Field Day hosted by Shannon and Bryan at Broadfork Farm
It was great to see all the families out planting garlic to live music, then sharing some specially prepared snacks and a sampling of Valk Kombucha. The conversations and enthusiasm shared during the tour by both Bryan and Shannon, plus many of the visitors made for the perfect afternoon.
I'm really grateful to feel that Community Machinery continues to move forward after many changes. We're increasingly becoming product-based, developing a line of farm equipment that has never been made for the small-farmer. It's been a challenging path to enter into uncharted territory when I could get into endless tasks around the shop.
To ramp things up I've been more intent on finding the right person to work with full-time. Someone with experience and passion both working with their hands and developing products is one consideration. It's also important to find someone who truly cares about many of the same projects, and hopefully they like working with computers more than I do!
I have to say, it's through the hard work of many people behind the scenes that make these moments possible, and I appreciate every bit. Thanks for taking the time to check in, for more updates on what's happening in the shop, you can find us on YouTube.
