Since we have a shop now, I'm seriously looking for someone to help get the Community Machinery message out. In my experience, a huge part of any success is how perception is cultivated. I've seen a lot of people hold themselves back in fear of selling out.
Wait a minute! Just what is 'selling out' and how do you avoid it?
That's a great question to answer in every working relationship. It's part of what makes Community Machinery different. It's a social enterprise that aims to put people and machinery in harmony; before a decision is made, we ask how it will affect those we care about, and even those that leave us feeling uneasy.
Are you really going to remember to do that in an emergency?
Have you ever worked at a place where there were always fires to put out? Last minute deadlines, emergency breakdowns, special requests? Our strategy? We have a good cash-flow plan so we don't get drawn into emergencies of our own making or those brought by others. We take on urgent work only if we're able. We're aiming to be the advocates and practitioners of the art of the back-up plan. We've looked at our worst-case scenario...
We're not getting into business because we need to make money, it's about an adventure...
Adventures always involve others. In my mind, I'd like to meet someone who picks up technology quickly, who also wants to chart their own course in life. A person who wants to practice collaborating with others, someone who finds it painful to live if they're not engaged in a creative pursuit.
Is this you? Lets have a conversation! No resumes or dressy clothes; just your authentic self
If nothing else, it's an opportunity to get some interview experience, talk about YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, creative writing, websites, blogs, taking risks, the meaning of life, and maybe even making a new friend...
How do you think it would work?
It's likely to start out as a few hours a week as we develop a working relationship. From there, we would look at what's working well, and what's we would want to improve after each meeting. We would have a conversation about projects we would do well on, and the kind of outside support that would help us to grow. Over time, we would seek a few people we mutually resonate with, who would help us remain accountable to our goals,
What's in it for me?
As far as wages for what someone brings, we are monetarily lean at the moment. That said, there's potential for rewards based on results. As a bonus, we'll give you an ownership stake, and make sure you have a say in the organizational direction.
I'd have to be a dreamer to get involved in this...
Yes you definitely would, dreamers only need apply. That's the sweetest part of the deal; whoever fits this position, it's going to be a good fit because our dreams are aligned. It's a place for someone who wants to collaborate with increasing creative freedom. While there's going to be a lot of challenges, it's going to feel incredibly rewarding at the end of the day.
Okay, I'm a little curious...
